night like these
nights like these
another night like this
the lonely wanderer wanders again
far beyond his imagination, he will go
torn up sneakers, yesterday’s jeans
thin black hoodie, fitted cap to keep his mind warm
‘93 lexus, he rolls down his tinted windows
and let the midnight winds brush his face
blowing smoke, slow tempo music
ignoring the lights tonight, cruise control
these train tracks are too familiar
he’s driven by this park many times before
the roads are bumpy as usual
these girls are all the same
he’s memorized most of their names
he understands their charm
and that their outfits are their vanity
but yet, the dogs still chase them
they bark loud about the bone
it’s like a cycle of heartbreaks
heartache after heartache
it’s no longer a chase, but the race
the race to save their pride
play and survive or get buried alive
the mentality of this town
the mentality he has grown into
growing pains, they say
from knowing something won’t ever change
what happen to the strange dark alley way?
when did they become short cuts home?
where was he gifted with his first kiss?
where did all the good memories go?
so on a night like this
on a night where he feels like this
on a night with only the echoes of loneliness
when the roads are at it’s emptiest
he goes on a ride, the ride
roaming through the streets
the streets that raised him
the streets that gave him everything
because the in the daylight
the crowds rule the city
but when the moon and the stars
are at its brightest
when the sky is at its darkest
the city is his for the night
the city he fell in love with
but has been with for too long
but no matter how far he runs
he knows that he’ll always come home
he loves it, he loves it so much
a love so unforgettable, it’s unforgivable
